FAQs

How much does an awning cost?

Price depends on many variables such as style, size, material type, and valance styles. If you know the approximate size and style of awning you’d like, we can give you a rough estimate by phone. If you have plans or a drawing, please send it to us and we can quote a price for you. For a firm price we often need to see the location. Call to set up an appointment for a free estimate.

How long does it take to make an awning?

Our typical lead-time is about 6 weeks from acceptance to installation. During the summer season the lead time increases depending on our work load. The current time-frame will be given upon acceptance.

How long will my awning last?

Awnings typically last about 8-12 years or more depending upon exposure before the fabric needs to be replaced. The fabrics we use have up to a 10-year warranty from the manufacturers. Aluminum frames are TIG welded, do not rust and are built to last indefinitely.

Can I add graphics to my awning?

Yes. We do have many options for graphics. From simple letters and numbers to full color, detailed graphics and logos.

Do Awnings provide energy savings?

You can actually feel the energy saving benefits. In a typical building, more energy is lost through glass doors and windows than through any other construction element. Studies by the American Society of Heating and Air Conditioning Engineers show that during the period of the day when the sun shines directly on southern facing windows, a fabric awning reduces heat gain by 55 to 65 percent. For western exposure, the reduction in heat gain is 72 to 77 percent. A St. Louis, MO study shows that residential awnings reduce cooling energy use by 28-41 percent as compared to the unshaded house.

Are awnings waterproof? Can I stay out under my awning in inclement weather?

Some awning fabrics are waterproof and some are water-repellent. Waterproof fabrics such as reinforced laminated vinyl provide protection from rain as well as sun protection. Woven fabrics that are water-repellent allow you to fully enjoy the space shaded by the awning during light passing showers or drizzle conditions. In other words, if the weather is nice enough for you to be outside, then it is good enough for you to be out beneath your awning.

What colors are available and does the color affect how shaded the area will be?

Today’s fabrics come in more than 500 solid and striped colors! For the temperature, while color choice has some slight impact, the type of fabric chosen and the overall ventilation of the installation will have a greater effect. The darker the color chosen, the darker the shade effect underneath will be. There are exceptions, however. Some fabrics have a lighter-colored under-side than the top-side color, which gives a more pleasing shading effect.
